This is kind of embarrassing, but...
So one of the things that has made it really hard for me to move to Alaska was that I was leaving so many awesome friends in Utah. I don't have to be the life of the party, but I've always loved having really good friends. After college and being in a long term relationship, it can be really hard to meet people. So it's no secret I've been pretty lonely since moving to Alaska. The other kayak guides are nice, but they and Drew work all the time, and I live in a tiny little town with nothing to do. I've stooped as low as picking up hitchhikers who are girls my age mostly just out of the hope that we will bond miraculously in the car and become friends. BUT, there is hope! I was complaining to my sister about how lonely I was and she was like, "you should go on like a 'meet new people in anchorage' website or something!" I thought that was pretty lame, but she sent me a link for one and hey, it was probably better than picking up random hitchhikers, right? So I just put a little profile up in the "young professionals new to anchorage" group and left it at that. A couple weeks have gone by and some girl emailed me! She even looks like a normal person in her picture. She has a normal job and is from PA and has a boyfriend who kayaks all the time and the best part is....she lives in my tiny town! I didn't mention that I only commute to Anchorage for work, so it's totally random that she lives here too. So I emailed her back....it's kind of weird. I don't know how to get to know her without sounding like I'm trying to date her. It kind of reminds me of the movie, "I love you, Man" So anyways, wish me luck....maybe I'll have a new friend! :)
