Fur Rondy: World Championship Sled Dog Race

One of the fun parts of fur rondy is the world championship sled dog races.  They are held in Anchorage proper.  The go through downtown, through local parks, cross on pedestrian overpasses, and loop back to downtown.  We went out and cheered the teams on near our house one day.  We live by one of the pedestrian overpasses they crossed.  It was fun to see the sleds come racing by, especially when they were really close to each other and trying to pass.  We tried to cheer them on without distracting the dogs too much.  Here's some pictures from the race:

We are starting to get sucked into the dog culture of Alaska.  Part of us really wants a dog and then part of us realizes how incredibly limiting having a dog would be to our somewhat transient lifestyle.  It's tough to just get up and go on a road trip or longer when you have a dog.  Oh well, one day!
